Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes using the flat phantom previously used in EMI testing of cardiac pacemakers to test implantable medical devices such as the cochlear implant. The flat phantom is compared to the head-shaped phantom, which is a realistically-shaped phantom that approximates an actual usage situation. The measured and calculated results show that the difference between the E-field strength of the flat and head-shaped phantoms is less than 2 dB in the area of the cochlear implant. As a result of measuring the relation between the thickness of flat phantom and the inner E-field strength, if the thickness of the phantom is 7 cm or more, the difference from the surface to 2 cm below the surface is less than 1 dB. The results of EMI testing of the cochlear implant show that there is no difference in the maximum interference distance for either phantom. This paper presents measured and calculated results that validate the use of the flat phantom in EMI tests of implantable medical devices, which are subcutaneously implanted.
