An Estimation Method of SAR by Measuring the Magnetic Field in Free Space

Abstract(in English) In recent years, there has been growing concern about the possible influence of electromagnetic radiation from mobile radio antennas on the human body and whether it constitutes an electromagnetic health hazard. In response to these fears, regulation by low regarding the safety limit of the SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) was implemented in Japan in June 2002. The present standard SAR measurement system requires a great deal of investment cost and measurement time, usually several hours, and thus is not suitable for practical use at the factory production stage. To solve these difficulties, we have developed a new evaluation system that makes use of an algorithm that the SAR estimated from magnetic field distribution in the vicinity of a cellular phone in free space. The equipment is also capable of calculating an average SAR value by evaluating 3D-field distribution from measured 2D-magnetic fields. All the procedure required for estimating the SAR are automatically processed in a computer, and accordingly are executed faster than a conventional SAR diagnostic system.
