Relation between Radiated Emission from Balanced Pair Cable and Layout Condition of Ferrite Cores

Abstract(in English) Recently, balanced pair (unshielded twisted pair (UTP)) cable has been used for LAN system whose speed exceeds 100Mbps. When the signal speed increases further, the signal component of the LAN system have a possibility radiated from the cable and to disturb the operation of radio wave receiver. In this paper, we investigate the suppression effect of electromagnetic field radiated from the UTP cable when the place of ferrite core, the number of ferrite cores, and the space between cores are changed. A UTP cable was presented by a series of four-port networks to calculate the electric field strength. The part of cable where a ferrite core was placed was also presented by a four-port network and this was inserted in the series. As a result, the calculated values almost agrees with the measured ones. Moreover, the analysis indicates that the emission from the cable decreases when the place of the ferrite cores close up the input end and the number of ferrite cores increases. It also indicates that the emission suppression effect does not always increase depend on the number of ferrite cores when the space between ferrite cores changes.
