Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We have developed a capacitive fingerprint sensor LSI with such features as a small size, light weight, low power consumption, that offers secure and convenient automatic user authentication. The sensing circuit achieves high sensitivity to detect small capacitance between the finger surface and the sensor plate. The calibration circuit eliminates the influence of the sensor surface condition, which is degraded by dirt or a scratch during long-time usage. The chip also has a fingerprint-image adjustment scheme with an adjustable A/D converter to obtain image quality suitable for identification. Each sensor plate is surrounded by a grounded wall, and the top of the wall is exposed to the sensor surface. This structure provides high immunity to electrostatic discharge because the charge of the finger is discharged through the grounded wall.
