Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) For ATM Network, Variable Bit Rate (VBR) service is used to accommodate TCP/IP traffic. In an international ATM network with large propagation delay, higher TCP throughput can be obtained by use of window scale option. In the previous study, we estimated VBR parameter values of conventional TCP traffic and investigated TCP throughput degradation due to the cell discards of the ATM switch UPC function when the VBR parameter values in UPC function are set to smaller values than the estimated VBR parameter values. The behavior of TCP using window scale option, however, is difficult to analyze from those results. In this paper, we show an experimental results of VBR parameter estimation and TCP throughput degradation due to UPC function for TCP traffic with window scale option over a wide area ATM network.
