Load balancing method corresponding to changes of contents placements

Abstract(in English) User requests are load-balanced among content distribution servers in a site to avoid the concentration of load to a particular server or storage. Cache servers or mirror servers are used as distribution servers. Operation costs of controlling the placements of contents in local storages are reduced applying a cache replacement algorithm when cache servers are used as distribution servers. But user requests are load-balanced independent to the popularity of contents. Placements of contents can be controlled by a content provider freely when mirror servers are used as distribution servers. However, too many operation costs are needed to control it. And a content placement method which will realize adequate load-balancing is not proposed yet. In this paper, we propose a method which solves above problems. Placements of copies of contents on local storages in a site are changed according to popularity of contents. User requests are load-balanced according to the changes. Placement policies are applied to contents, and the placements of copies of contents are controlled obeying them automatically. Operation costs are reduced by the automatic control. The proposing method will realize appropriate load-balancing.
