Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Ethernet Pseudo Wire (PW) that enables point-to-point Ethernet link service using MPLS LSP, and Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) that provides multipoint-to-multipoint shared LAN service with full-meshed Ethernet PWs are currently discussed in the IETF. First, this paper briefly describes protocol specifications of Ethernet PW and VPLS. Then, this paper explains that the tagged mode of Ethernet PW may violate in-sequence MAC frame delivery specified in the IEEE standard. Furthermore, this paper clarifies only a single PW failure in the full-meshed Ethernet PWs that support VPLS may lead fatal problems such as black holes in user OSPF or IS-IS network and loops in user LAN.
