Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, TCP overlay network which relays TCP connections is proposed for purposes of improvement of performance, stability and reliability. This is because that relaying TCP enables to achieve both small RTT (Round Trip Time) and low packets loss rate. TCP throughput, however, happens to be degraded when the TCP connections are relayed without any control in TCP Proxy. We revealed that trivial congestion in TCP downstream causes severe throughput degradation in upstream. In order cope with this problem, we propose congestion prevention buffer management for TCP Proxy. The proposed method can suppress throughput degradation in upstream with notification (advertisement) of smaller buffer size than available one to the upstream TCP connection. This method has no modification on TCP protocol so that this inherits a nature of "TCP friendly". Through simulation and prototyping the performance improvement of the proposed method is evaluated. The results show that the proposal method can achieve twice as high as that in no control.
