Abstract(in English) | Data Grids are designed to solve large scale data management problems integrating globally distributed computing and storage resources. Data Grids handle very large files and they are often transferred between sites. Exploiting replicas of files on multiple sites, transfer of a large file can be speeded up by sending fragments of the file in parallel from multiple sites. This paper discusses a scheme for parallel file transfer in Data Grid environment where TCP is used as the transport protocol. We consider the case in which some bottleneck links are shared by paths between sites which have replicas and the site which requests the file. We propose a static scheme to allocate the size of the file fragment for each site to send according to its data transfer rate. We assume that the network topology, link capacity, propagation delay and router buffer size is given. Using these information, our scheme estimates the transfer rate from each site by steady-state analysis and allocates the size of the file fragment each site sends. We evaluated the performance of our scheme by simulation. Simulation results showed that our approach is effective to improve performance compared to point-to-point file transfer or simple striping file transfer. |
