Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose a new technique to estimate bottleneck-link bandwidth along a path in the Internet. Our proposal is based on the active measurement approach: it actively sends two consecutive UDP packeks and infers the bandwidth of the bottleneck link from the interarrival time of acknowledgements (ICMP packets) from routers or end hosts. An important feature of the proposal lies in the use of a simple filtering technique to remove the estimation error involved in raw data obtained by straightforward application of the packet-pair technique. Extensive experiments conducted on a local network at Chiba University and on the SINET indicate that, in terms of accuracy and robustness, the proposal is superior to several existing tools.
