[Invited paper] R&D on next generation photonic network for creating value-added telecommunication services

Abstract(in English) Recent R&D activities toward the realization of value-added telecommunication services in GMPLS-based next generation photonic network are described. First, we overview GMPLS technology and GMPLS-based network architecture, and emphasize the difference between conventional and GMPLS-based network. Then, the description is made on physical layer configuration and control technology of the link parameters for realization of value-added services. Finally, we look at various services that are expected to be provided in the next generation photonic network and a wavelength path service prototype that has been developed in Japan Telecom.
