Abstract(in English) Obtaining experimental feedbacks from practical sensor network application is one of the essential in designing good sensor network architecture. Toward this end, it is necessary to develop a useful sensor network node with flexible, replaceable, and composable functions and modules (e.g.communication hardware, MAC protocol, routing protocol, etc.) in the node. Although there have been developed several wireless sensor network node such as MICA Mote, none of them clearly support easy replacement and composability of functions. This shortcoming affects usability and efficiency of development of sensor network and its applications. From this point of view, we developed a new wireless sensor network node catted "U^3 (U-cube)" which was designed to support easy replacement of hardware and software functions. This paper describes the design and implementation of U^3 as well as experimental performance evaluations.
