Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper considers a location management scheme called limited pointer forwarding from commonly visited sites (LPC) in mobile communications. LPC aims to significantly reduce the cost for updating the databases associated with mobile users' movements. One of the characteristics of the LPC scheme is to exploit the fact that it is highly likely for mobile users to move within their commonly visited sites (CVSs) [1]. We introduce some mobility models of the mobile users to visit their CVSs and employ the analytical models by Markov chains to evaluate the location management cost. We compare the location management cost of the LPC scheme with previously existing other schemes and discuss the conditions under which LPC outperforms the other schemes.
