Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The PRML method, being applied to an optical recording/reading channel, can reduce read signal error and expand drive margin, and, as a result, contribute to cost down of the optical head and the optical storage drive. The DVD-RAM drives, equipped with PR(3443) read-channel, have already been shipped to the market and have gotten good reputations. For getting equal or higher reliability than the DVD drives, even in the Blu-ray Disc drive system, the feasibility of PR(1221), suitable for d=1 modulation code system, has been studied. Furthermore, the new concept MLSE (maximum likelihood sequential error) has been proposed and studied to optimize write compensation.
