The Influence of Track Width on Resolution of Shielded GMR Head

Abstract(in English) High linear density achievement is important for high density realization in perpendicular magnetic recording. Therefore narrow reproducing pulse is necessary. The degradation of the resolution of narrow track GMR head is concerned because of the resolution degradation in track edge. The sensitivity function and output of shielded GMR head with different read track width was investigated by 3 dimensional finite element method using commercial software JMAG-Studio. The results were compared with 2 dimensional calculation by 2 dimensional finite element method and analytical expression. Although the sensitivity function in the track center became narrower when read track width became narrower, there were almost no changes in the all track output by reciprocity, for both perpendicular and longitudinal recording. From this calculation, it is shown that read track width has almost no influence on resolution of shielded GMR head.
