Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Weighted prediction (WP) improves coding efficiency for fade-in, fade-out, and cross-fade (dissolve) scene change, and it is adopted in the emerging video coding standard H.264. At the encoder side, several prediction parameters, such as the prediction modes, reference picture, motion vectors, as well as weight parameters for WP, are estimated ideally such that overall rate distortion cost should be minimized. The conventional estimation method for weight parameters, implemented in the latest official H.264 reference software, does not take into account overhead of other parameters. This paper proposes a novel prediction estimation method, which minimizes overall rate distortion cost for WP on H.264.
