Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The conventional impulse detection methods tend to work well for fixed-valued impulse noise but poorly for random-valued impulse noise. This paper proposes an impulse detection method which can accurately detect both fixed-valued and random-valued impulse noise. The proposed method consists of two systems. The first system detects the impulse noise by considering the difference between the intensity of a target pixel and the output of the median filter. The second system verifies whether the noise detection results obtained by the first system arc correct. By using these systems, the proposed method can accurately detect both the types of impulses and can be effectively used as a preprocessor for noise reduction filtering.
