Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, methods and techniques for ITS are researched actively. Many road environment detection systems that assists drivers' judgement and makes up oversight of road environments are proposed. In many of these systems, recognition of road signs are achieved by resizing image and employing template matching. Though, resizing image will reduce it's quality, and will cause the system to fail in matching. In this paper, a recognition method based on vectors is proposed. After calculating of vectors on each pixel, outline vector lists are. generated by tracing the vectors. Then, signatures of the image are generated from detected outline vector lists. Recognition is processed by matching these signatures to template signatures using string matching technique.
