Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Stereo pictures are widely available due to the spread of digital cameras and are two pictures of nearly the same scene taken at the same time. They are constructed from nearly the same image objects and background, and allow computation of 3 dimensional information. The stereo correspon-dence between pictures is the point of reference of stereo pictures. Stereo correspondence is generally searched for under to epi-polar conditions.[1,2] In this paper, we propose to examine stereo correspon-dence using optical flow without epi-polar conditions. Optical flow is an algorithm obtained from the moving vectors of a moving pictures. [3] Optical flow vectors indicate the direction for the next search region when seeking correspondence. Our stereo correspondence search method is described as follows:(1) Optical flow vectors are obtained from stereo pictures. (2) If the sum of the magnitude of optical flow vectors is minimum, the two pictures will be matched. (3) If the sum of the magnitude of optical flow vectors is not minimum, the next search region will be estimated by statistical analysis of the direction of optical flow vectors. Experimental results show that our proposed method searched corresponding positions between the stereo pictures which were shifted sideways and lengthways.
