Beam Scanning Performance of Slotted Waveguide Phased Array using Feeding Circuit of Block Excitation Technique

Abstract(in English) Low cost phased arrays are required for commercial applications. Block excitation technique has been proposed to reduce a required number of phase shifters without degradation of antenna performance. Then, we propose a novel phased array composed of four slotted waveguides with only one phase shifter using the block excitation technique. Two pairs of slotted waveguides are connected through a coupling window which creates intermediate phase at the two middle ports and radiation pattern results in low sidelobe. A phased array is designed at 12GHz and applicability of this technique is confirmed by experiment of the fabricated antenna in this paper. The sidelobe level of the antenna is reduced by installation of the coupling window compared with that without the window. The beam direction can be controlled by changing phase of the single phase shifter. Furthermore, it is confirmed that higher sidelobe level than that of the ideal uniform distribution is due to the phase progress of the wave coupled through the window.
