Modeling and Estimation of Angular Spread in DOA Estimation

Abstract(in English) In mobile communication, local scatters around the mobile station causes angular spread of arrival waves. In such an angular spread environment, the accuracy of the estimated DOA (Direction-Of-Arrival) gets worse especially in high-accuracy super resolution algorithms like MUSIC method. Hence we have to estimate both DOA and its angular spread to know communication environment in detail for high-speed communication. There have already been some algorithms for DOA and angular spread estimation, but they are still have problems for practical use because of their inaccuracy and modeling conditions. One of resent angular spread models assumes Gaussian distribution for power density and delay profile. It works well but the model is considered as ideal and different from the real situation. This paper aims to modify the angular spread model to be close to real environment model by adopting complex amplitude. The present and conventional models are tested through some simulations of DOA and angular spread estimation.
