Characteristics of the Dipole Antenna on a Portable Telephone without a Balun

Abstract(in English) We simulate the characteristics of a dipole antenna without a balun on a box of a portable telephone. Length of the box and the dipole antenna is changed as a parameter. This simulation shows the condition where the dipole antenna without a balun can act as a balanced antenna. We define the ratio Ru of the total power and that dissipated into unbalanced mode as the scale. It is confirmed by the simulation results that Ru changes as the length of the box changes. Further, Ru increases when the length of the dipole antenna shift from λ/2. We also analyze the impedances of balanced mode and unbalanced mode and show that the ratio of two impedances can explain the above phenomena. All investigate is done at 2.045GHz.
