| Abstract(in English) | IP packet transmission has become one of the major applications in modern communication networks where mobile-satellite systems are not an exception. Despite such a remarkable development of IP packet transmission technologies, technical and operational guidelines are not necessarily well prepared in many communication networks that include mobile-satellite systems. In particular, performance requirements have been less studied so far for IP network packet transmission networks compared with the cases for other conventional systems like ISDN and ATM. This paper briefly describes standardization activities on the IP packet data transmission for the mobile-satellite service (MSS) in ITU-R Study Group 8 Working Party 8D (WP8D). This paper also introduces some commercial IP packet data transmission applications using MSS. |
