Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, a novel three-axis attitude determination technique using Global Positioning System (GPS) is presented. This technique calculates an attitude of a vehicle by using a new configuration of GPS antennas in three-dimension (3-D), where each of the GPS antennas is placed at each vertex of a polyhedron. Polyhedra (tetrahedron, octahedron, and icosahedron), which have regular triangle faces, are particularly suitable for this type of GPS-based attitude determination. For the polyhedral configuration, an optimal data processing method of measuring a vehicle's attitude is developed such that it exploits all the information from measurements detected by the GPS receivers. Since the computational complexity of the optimal method is not acceptable from the practical point of view, a reduced-complexity method that uses part of the measurements is also developed. A wide-variety of applications using the proposed polyhedral GPS receivers system are discussed.
