Abstract(in English) | Opportunistic beamforming was proposed in [1] as a low complexity alternative downlink beamforming technique. In this paper we propose using an equivalent technique in a multi user wireless access system where the access point is equipped with an electronically steerable parasitic array radiator (ESPAR) antenna. Opportunistic beamforming on an ESPAR antenna has two merits: First, knowledge of the spatial vector channels is not required. second, a time consuming sequential beamforming procedure for optimizing the beam pattern is evaded. In a numerical study we find that for 10 users the average channel gain in the downlink can be increased by 5.8 decibels as compared to the case without beamforming. |
