Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The space radiation environment has been a major cause of anomalies in GEO communication satellites, even though much knowledge and information has been obtained over the past three decades. It is essential to describe and assess space environment in which spacecraft operates. Analysis results can be used as principal data in system design level and assist to make more reliable electronics of geosynchronous satellite. The main sources of energetic particles that are of concern to GEO are 1) electrons trapped in the Van Allen belts, 2) protons and heavy ions from solar flares, 3) bremsstrahlung. These energetic particles are defined as worst and best cases and the total ionization doses are calculated with space radiation model, SPENVIS. The effect of trapped electrons influences strongly up to thicknesses of 5-6 mm of Aluminum, but effects of bremsstrahlung become to dominate for the thickness above 7 mm. A typical GEO spacecraft equivalent shielding level is 1.78-2.54 mm (70-100 mils) so that internal radiation levels behind the spacecraft are strongly dependent on solar flare protons' confidence level, to which solar flare proton fluences are related.
