Development of the multi-processing turbo codec module

Abstract(in English) The group modem (multi-carrier multi-rate modem) had been developed as a key technology of the direct-multicasting satellite communications system that achieved a full mesh type multicasting satellite network economically. The group-modem has remarkable features such as simultaneous connections with different points, communication at an arbitrary rate, and usage of the dispersed and discontinuous spectrum. Recently new forward error correction technology called turbo coding has been developed which realized the higher error correcting ability closed to the Shannon limit, and this technology is going to be used in the satellite communications system widely. Therefore we have developed the multi-processing turbo codec module to be implemented in the group modem equipment in order to make good use of its features and achieve higher error correcting ability. This paper presents the technical specification and the characteristics of the multi-processing turbo codec module.
