Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Utilizing periodically polarization-reversal technology, the phase and the magnitude of electrooptic phase modulation are arbitrary controllable, which leads to optical SSB modulators with a simple structure operated in the quiasi-millimeterwave and millimeterwave frequency range. In this report, the design, the fabrication, and the experimental demonstration of the 26GHz electrooptic SSB modulator using polarization-reversal schemes are presented. The fabricated modulator exhibited good optical SSB modulation performances around 26GHz and its applications to the Radio-On-Fiber systems were also carried out. By use of the SSB modulation scheme for the 26GHz RF signal transmission through silica optical fibers with a length of l~20km, the power penalty of the detected 26GHz signal by a photodiode caused by the dispersion of the silica fibers was drastically reduced compared to the DSB modulation scheme.
