Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A multilayer thin-film waveguide is analyzed by the beam propagation method based on Yee's mesh. Birefringence properties of the multilayer thin-film waveguide are demonstrated by the eigenmode analysis based on the imaginary-distance procedure. Taking advantage of the birefringence, a polarization splitter composed of two parallel waveguides is proposed. Calculation shows that the crosstalks are -33.5 dB for the quasi-TE mode and -20.7 dB for the quasi-TM mode when the device length is chosen to be 270 μm.
