FDTD Analysis of Planar Inverted-F Antenna Using CP Method

Abstract(in English) In recent years, FDTD (Finite Difference Time Domain) method becomes very popular in computational electromagnetics with advance in computer technology. In general, stair step approximation is used when the shape of target object does not match up the rectangular cell in the FDTD method. In order to obtain high analysis accuracy using stairs approximation, it is necessary to use small cell with huge computer resources. The CP-FDTD method using the Faraday's low was proposed to fit the analysis region with target object. Complicated formulas are needed to apply the original CP method to the problem, therefore a simplified CP method using only H_z component has been proposed. In this report, the improvement method to increase the accuracy applying the simplified CP method is examined. A planar inverted-F antenna is chosen up in this report as a target object. The proposed method improve the accuracy of the resonant frequency rather than the stair step approximation. Next, in order to examine bandwidth error of FDTD analysis, the wire radius of a feed and two short pins are included, which gives good agreement with the experiment.
