A Study on High Speed Internet Service Deployment over Broadband Satellite System

Abstract(in English) Broadband satellite systems are anthusiastically studied so that speed Internet is deployed over the system. However, due to new features of the broadband satellite systems, it is difficult to achieve high TCP throughput and effective IP routing protocol exchange over the system. For example, the large delay of satellite links degrades TCP throughput. The on-demand ATM SVC makes it difficults to run IP routing protocols without any change. In this paper, we discuss the problems at TCP and IP layers, and enumerates candidate solutions to individual problems.
