Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Inmarsat has been offering mobile communication services between land and vessels via satellite since 1982. At the first stage, an analog system called standard -A was introduced which could convey voice, fax and some data. Then, several digital systems have been established one after another from 1990 era. Additions to maritime service, service fields were expanded to aircraft, land mobile terminal and portable type terminal on land as well. As for service category, traffic trends are sifting from voice or fax to data communication accessing INTERNET which leads the introduction of higher speed services such as 64kbps and new service of packet mode communications. This paper describes the overview of recent trends in Inmarsat system. First of all, existing Inmarsat systems are introduced, then newly introduced systems are presented regarding to the system configuration, status of satellite and so on.
