Abstract(in English) | This paper discusses audio coding algorithms for digital musical instruments. There are over about 50-channel decoder on an LSI device used in musical instruments, TV-game machines, and recent cell-phones. Since hardware resources per channel on the decoder are restricted, a simple algorithm such as ADPCM is commonly used. We investigated several frequency analysis/synthesis and adapting methods for digital musical instruments, and found that Adaptive Predictive Coding (APC) is efficient for reducing the amount of memory. An APC codec was implemented and a subjective evaluation for 5 musical instruments sounds was performed. It is found that the quality of APC using predictive filter based on the covariance method is comparable with that of ADPCM used in G722, while RAM size required for decoder is reduced to about 30%. |
