Fine grains and Magnetic Properties of Sr-M Ferrite Thin Films with Large Perpendicular Magnetic Anisotropy

Abstract(in English) The flash annealing process, which is to deposit thin films at low temperature of 250℃ and to anneal them at high temperature of 900℃ in the air for a few minutes, was so effective for magneto-plumbite type (M-type) ferrite thin films deposited on Pt underlayer to crystallize them with well c-axis orientation even at the thickness of them below 20 nm. They exhibited also finer grains and smooth surfaces after the process. The flash annealing process were applied to LaCo substituted Sr ferrite (LaCo-SrM), which has a large magneto-crystalline anisotropy. The LaCo-SrM/Pt films exhibited high perpendicular coercivity above 4kOe, and their in-plane grain size was reduced to about 20 nm. Their magnetic properties were improved by constructing multilayer configuration using Pt interlayers into a LaCo-SrM layer. LaCo-SrM/Pt multilayers exhibited higher perpendicular coecivity above 5kOe and large squareness ratio around 0.9. The LaCo-SrM/Pt multilayer seems to be applicable for perpendicular magnetic recording media.
