Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In Japan, corresponding to the great move towards the realization of the gender-equal society, people have become to have a keen awareness of the gender issues very rapidly and deeply. Also the gender studies which began in l960's have been changing their figures greatly corresponding to the stream of the time. The authors supposed that such changes could be captured accurately if we analyze the gender-related Web communities. In this paper, using a Web community analyzing tool named Companion- developed by Kitsuregawa Laboratory of the Institute of Industrial Science of the University of Tokyo, we have analyzed the communities carefully in order to make the following problems clear: How the communities have been changing due to the stream of the time, and more precisely how the gender studies or activities have been changing their figures due to the social or cultural events because the gender concept has intrinsically the socio-cultural nature. On the other hand, although many Web link analysis algorithms have been developed so far including the method based on the HITS algorithm, the strongly connected link analysis method, or the Max-Flow approach, there has been a great interest for the developers to know whether their tools are really useful in the real world applications or not. This paper reports that although the adoption of Companion- based on the HITS algorithm are useful in analyzing the evolution of Web communities, but some difficulties arise in that the analysts should be closely aware of the characteristics of the community evolution process browser..
