Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Based on wave acoustics, focusing of a plane progressive ultrasonic wave by a plano-concave lens, which is made of acrylic resin and is submerged in water, is investigated theoretically. For simplicity, it is assumed that the wave in normally incident on the lens and there is no energy disspation such as sound absorption losses due to viscocity in water. Harmonic components in nonlinear sound beams passing through the lens are numerically obtained using the spheroidal beam equation (SBE), which has been previously proposed to be more amendable to the analysis of a highly focused beam. Experiment is carried out for a 42° half-aperture lens using a 5-MHz ultrasound beam with finite amplitude, giving pressure curves of the first three harmonics along the beam axis. Theory and experiment are in relatively good agreement.
