An Easy Measurement Method of Particle Concentration in Aqueous Suspensions Using a Piano-Concave Ultrasonic Transducer with Broad Band and Focusing Effect

Abstract(in English) The concentration of panicles in liquid-based suspensions and emulsions is an important parameter in a wide industrial applications. In this paper, we discuss about an easy measurement method of the particle concentration using ultrasonic attenuation spectroscopy. The transducer used in the experiments is a plano-concave ultrasonic transducer with broad frequency band and focusing effect, and then the ultrasonic pulse wave or chirp wave is radiated from the transducer into aqueous suspension. Its echo pulses returned from a reflector put in front of the transducer are received by the same transducer and the frequency spectra for each particle concentration are obtained from each received echo pulse. As a result, we could simply measure the particle concentration in aqueous suspensions by the ultrasonic attenuation characteristics of frequency spectrum, over the broad frequency range from 1MHz up to 20MHz only a plano-concave transducer. Also, it was clarified that this method has the features which could instantaneously measure particle concentration with high receiving sensitivity.
