Abstract(in English) | This paper will examine the progress of the development of satellite broadcasting in Japan, with a particular focus on the key technologies in four stages. Looking at the dawn of satellite broadcasting, we will discuss the role played by low-noise receivers for satellite broadcasting in broadcast systems that assume direct reception. Regarding the developmental stage, we will introduce a case study of Hi-vision, which became a driving force behind the dramatic popularization of satellite broadcasting by demonstrating the appeal of the contents available. Moving into the present, we will discuss how digital satellite broadcasting is gradually gaining acceptance as a core media for the multimedia era. Finally, looking to the future, we will examine the evolution of digital satellite broadcasting in an era of broadcasting/communication integration. |
