Performances of high temperature superconducting Josephson detectors at millimeter-wave band

Abstract(in English) Responses of high temperature superconducting (HTS) Josephson detectors at millimeter-wave band have been studied in detail to check their performances. YBCO grain boundary junctions with the normal-state resistance (R_N) around 1 Ω and I_CR_N product of less than 2mV have been fabricated for this study, where I_C is the critical current of the junction. A Gunn oscillator at the frequency of 98GHz together with a set of calibrated attenuators with total attenuation of 90dB has been used as a level-controlled millimeter signal source. A quasi-optical system, which consists of a wideband planar log-periodic antenna encompassing the junction, parabolic mirrors, and a hyperhemispherical Si lens, has been used as an effective coupling system. Using a junction with I_CR_N of 300μV, the sensitive of about 9,OOOV/W has been obtained, which is higher than that of the Schottky diode detectors at the same frequency band. The dynamic range, i. e. the range of the signal power at which the response of the detector is proportional to the input power, was demonstrated to be around 38dB with the measuring channel bandwidth of 1 Hz and found to be independent on the parameters of the measured junctions.
