Dependable Embedded Controller System Which Supports the Ubiquitous Information Society

Abstract(in English) The ubiquitous information society is considered to come in the near future, when every machinery and instrument is connected to the network and can be watched and controlled from remote sites by personal computers and portable information appliances. This presentation discusses our plans for the development of the dependable embedded controller system which supports the ubiquitous information society. Conventional embedded controller system has the following demands: (1) collaboration of information domain and control domain, (2) high reliability, (3) many kinds of products with small quantity and long life. In addition to these demands, the ubiquitous information society requires distributed, small sized and low cost controllers. In order to satisfy these requirements, the following technological improvements are necessary: (1) time-sharing processing of communication and control tasks, and direct connection of IO to the network, (2) one-chip reliable microcontroller, and (3) use of FPGA, and configurable design methodology.
