Abstract(in English) | This paper describes an optimum design of input interface for electronic book viewers used by people with motor disabilities. The viewers presently available, however, have several defects, such as time-consuming operations and the difficulty in the pointer positioning. In an attempt to eliminate these, we experimentally obtained a minimum requirement in operation functions, and then proposed two different selection-board designs, such as a single board and a hierarchically structured board, using the essential operation functions obtained in the preliminary experiment. Comparing the two selection-boards and a conventional menu-bar interface with respect to the number of operations and that of erroneous operations, we obtained the following remarkable results: 1) the menu-bar interface was inferior compared with other designs;2) the single board was easy to use in every respect; and 3) the hierarchically structured board was superior in repeated operations and those within the same hierarchy. These suggested that the hierarchically structured board and single board were suitable for operations in reading and screen setting, respectively. |
