Abstract(in English) We present a system which helps the visually impaired people to understand the character information in the environment using a note PC and a CCD camera, and propose a method of presenting the user the extracted character information more efficiently. The system captures an image by the camera connected to the note PC, and extracts character regions from the image by using the general features of a character and a character sequence and the color information of a signboard region on which the character is drawn. Then OCR(Optical Character Recognition) analyzes the extracted character regions. The system gives high priority to OCR results for which the user desires or which one considered to be important for the user. Finally outputs recognized characters by synthesized voice.
