Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The visual impaired often meets with traffic accidents by misunderstanding at well experienced places such as platform. This system consists of a video camera attached to a cap, an image processing system, vibrators, a location estimation system, a speaker and a battery. The system recognizes the station platform, informs the visually impaired by the vibration pattern that inform him/her which direction he/she should go. The system tells through speaker more complex information such as landmark and warning message. The system is not only a pedestrian navigation system but a system preventing the user from meeting traffic accidents. We develop five sub-systems; image processing system, location estimation system, guide system, root-based navigation system and human interface, and make experiments at the platform of Kofu station.
