Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Electronic book viewer is an effective means of reading for people with motor disabilities. For such use of the viewer, it is necessary to take into account fatigue associated with VDT use and its operationality. The final goal of this study is to develop a fatigue-free electronic book viewer with high operationality for people with motor disabilities. Then, this paper aims at clarifying an optimum screen display of electronic book viewer, which minimizes fatigue associated with VDT use. As screen displays considered capable of reducing visual fatigue, we selected "negative display", e.g., white font and black background, and "magnified display", and investigated their effects on the reduction of visual fatigue by employing several ergonomic means. Consequently, negative display of characters was verified to possess a fatigue-mitigation effect, while magnified display did not necessarily reduce visual fatigue. Thus, negative display of characters seems an obligatory function of electric book viewers.
