Hand Trajectory Extraction and Sign Language Recognition Using Thermal Image Processing

Abstract(in English) As a first step for recognizing sign language in a daily life, this paper proposes a method to extract hand trajectories in thermal images and recognize sign language with them. The test for the evaluation of the method shows hopeful results. The extraction rate of hand trajectories is 61%. The recognition rate of sing language in the case of good extraction of hand trajectories is 75%. Some developments such as hand shape recognition might be demanded for better recognition of sign language using thermal image.
