Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We examined the efficacy of thumb movements to control the fundamental frequency(F0) of electric larynx while the subject was uttering sentences. We developed the adjustment mechanisms with two degrees of freedom, in which the mechanisms convert the thumb movements of up/down and right/left into electrical signals to independently control on/off as well as the F0 of the vibration. The adjustment mechanisms also made it possible to start and stop the voice production at an arbitrary frequency. We conducted an experiment with normal speakers to investigate how close the mechanisms can generate the pitch pattern transitions to those observed in natural utterance. The experiment indicate that the mechanisms were able to produce the pitch pattern transitions similar to those in natural utterances and even to adjust the pitch rise pattern as observed at the end of questions.
