Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Future wireless/mobile communication system is expected to have heterogeneous overlay wireless access networks with a varied range of bandwidths and geographical coverages. Some networks provide larger bandwidth for smaller coverage, and the others provide smaller bandwidth for larger coverage. These networks are being developed to support large bandwidth consuming multimedia applications. As those applications have been increasing, mobile users will try to connect to higher bandwidth networks. However, depending on the its location and mobility pattern, a user may move out of the higher bandwidth network at any time during the communication. The change of network attachement during a communication session affects the performance of network service. In this paper, we analytically evaluate the impact of mobility on the network performance perceived by users. We define user's satisfaction function as the measure of network service performance from user's perpective, and evaluate the effect of mobilily on user's satisfaction function. Based on the evaluation we propose a scheme for selecting an access network in heterogeneous networks environment.
