Diversity Technique of Receivers with W-EP Soft-Decision Decoder in MIMO Systems

Abstract(in English) The number of users and services in mobile communications is increasing rapidly, and that requires efficient use of the available frequency band. MIMO (Multi-Input Multi-Output) systems are one possible candidate to meet these demand. We have proposed W-EP(Weighting-by Eigenvalue Power) soft-decision decoder in MIMO systems, and investigated E_b/N_0 versus BER performance by computer simulation under Rayleigh/Rician fading channels in 2×2 MIMO systems. This paper increases the number of receiving antennas, combines the received signals. As a result, E_b/N_0 versus BER performance is improved according to the number of received antennas. BER performance difference depending on interleave size becomes small as receiving antennas increases. Moreover, we can reduce the interleave size when we want to fulfill the BER performance demanded. This means that the combining technique has the ability of both interleave size reduction and BER performance improvement.
