Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) IP (Internet Protocol) telephony services operated by Internet Protocol have been introduced into commercial telecommunication networks. From viewpoints of customer's protection and provider's competition, communications quality taking account of customer's opinion (that is perceptual QoS: Quality of Service) is requested for assessment, design, and management of networks and terminals in IP telephony. The IP telephony services are expected to be advanced to not only conventional handset telephony but also hands-free telephony through PC-to-PC communications, and also not only conventional speech communication but also interactive multimedia communication with audio and video signals. This paper describes current status and future trend on perceptual QoS assessment for advanced IP telephony services.
