Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The National Space Development Agency (NASDA) has planned to launch the geostationary satellite, Engineering Test Satellite-VIII (ETS-VH), in 2004. BTS-W will conduct orbital experiments on mobile satellite communications aiming at audio and video applications at the S-band frequency. In this paper, the feasibility of reaching a relatively high value of gain for the required elevation angle on the whole azimuth plane, by use of electronically controlled patch array antennas, is discussed. These antennas do not require the use of a phase shifter and the beam is steered thanks to a simple ON, OFF feeding method. Here to types of models, namely a 3- and 4- elements stacked patch array antennas, are analyzed and their numerical performances obtained by the Method of Moments are compared. In both cases, it was confirmed that a minimum gain more than 6 dBic could be obtained for an elevation angle of 48° over the whole azimuth range.
